ProfilesAndy Lench became involved in wine over 20 years ago, and, in particular, the classified châteaux of Bordeaux which are recognised as investment wines. During this time, Andy has established a highly successful business in the US. This business involves the importation and distribution and of fine, rare & vintage wine plus En Primeur, or wine futures, from Bordeaux. In addition, they include other French regional wine, as well as wines from Italy, Germany, Spain and the New World. Andy has monitored the significant growth in value of Bordeaux wine, both En Primeur and the older vintages. He has harnessed this growth with significant effect both personally and for private individuals. His knowledge and fascination with this hugely enjoyable drink has enabled him to build a significant personal cellar of superior investment-grade wine. Given the success of the U.S. business and the personal benefits that he has seen, Andy then established a UK based company to explore similar opportunities. . Robert Lench spent 30 years in the financial services industry. His career encompassed a range of financial services institutions, including main board director of a major firm of stockbrokers. During this time he observed the vagaries suffered by private investors of investing in the more traditional areas. The Stock market has been a volatile ride. Significant variations have resulted in 'crashes', as well as appreciation in value. The recent 3 year 'bear' market has now reversed, bringing another curve in the 'rollercoaster' ride for stock market investors. Along the way there will be casualties such as the 'blue chip' (so called) Marconi which proved to be a worthless holding and a total loss ... at least with wine you still have the wine to drink. For the more cautious minded, secure deposits have left investors disillusioned as a result of falling interest rates, where returns do not keep pace with inflation. Property too has had its problems. So where do investors go for an effective, efficient and more stable return? Perhaps, the more esoteric products such as Hedge Funds? Or maybe the high risk of currencies? Wine however, is a much more understandable commodity. It has demonstrated a combination of stability and continuous growth plus makes for a great dinner party conversation, particularly if you are drinking a fine vintage!!
